Biden condemns attack on Zeldin: ‘Violence has absolutely no place in our society or our politics’

President Biden on Friday condemned the attack on New York GOP gubernatorial applicant Rep. Lee Zeldin,” stressing that “violence has completely no area in our modern society or our politics.”
Zeldin, R-N.Y., was attacked with a sharp object at a marketing campaign prevent in Perinton, N.Y. Thursday night.
“I condemn the assault on Congressman Zeldin in the strongest terms,” President Biden mentioned in a assertion Friday afternoon. “As I have explained prior to, violence has unquestionably no put in our culture or our politics.”

Biden, though, stopped short of addressing the release of Zeldin’s alleged assailant.
The man who allegedly attacked Zeldin, David G. Jakubonis, 43 of Fairport, N.Y., was billed with tried assault in the 2nd degree. He was arraigned in Perinton Town Court docket and unveiled from custody on his very own recognizance, the sheriff’s section mentioned.
Zeldin experienced predicted that his alleged attacker would be produced, citing New York’s laws.

“His suitable hand arrived up, I believe out of his pocket, and he had a blade on his hand,” Chenelly explained to Fox News Digital. “His fingers were being like two finger holes in the blade and lunged at the congressman. And Congressman Zeldin blocked the first lunge. And then as he experimented with to lunge once more, I grabbed him from behind and tackled him down to the floor and held him on the ground.”
Zeldin released a statement right after the attack that mentioned: “Thank you to everybody who attained out next tonight’s attack in Fairport. Someone tried to stab me on stage during this evening’s rally, but the good thing is, I was equipped to grab his wrist and end him for a few times right until other people tackled him. I’m okay, and @EspositoforNY, and all other attendees are harmless. The attacker is in custody. Grateful for the attendees who stepped up swiftly to aid and the regulation enforcement officers who rapidly responded. I’m as resolute as ever to do my portion to make NY safe and sound again.”
