EU Announces Plan to Cut Pesticide Use in Half

The European Commission has proposed a new regulation that would minimize pesticide use in 50 percent by 2030 and absolutely ban the use of these chemicals near colleges, playgrounds and hospitals. The proposal is element of a greater set of aims to reverse biodiversity loss and restore 20% of land and seas by the conclude of the ten years.

The legislation offers €100 billion ($105 billion) for biodiversity-concentrated projects to ward off what European Fee Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans phone calls a “looming ecocide.”

According to the Pesticide Action Community of Europe, nearly 350,000 metric tons of pesticides were sold in Europe in 2019, largely for agriculture. A 2017 report from the European Fee famous that pesticides trigger air pollution that instantly impacts biodiversity and ecosystems.
